Review:
Have you been longing for another look into the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite?  For fans of Gossip Girl, the book series or television, Anna K is a step back into that world. There are plenty of contemptible characters in this novel as Jenny Lee takes readers on a tour of Greenwich and Manhattan's elite teens.  This time however, one of our central characters is genuinely smart and kind and it will be hard for readers not to like Anna K.  For most of her young life, Anna has managed to rise above the general melee of sex, drugs, and partying that seem to enthrall her older brother Steven and many of their peers.  This has been easy as she would rather spend time with her dogs than most people and has been dating the most well reputed boy in Greenwich for several years.  While she is content, Anna has wondered if she is actually happy with her life and relationship.  It seems to her as though there should be more passion, but this is hardly something she can discuss with the friends and family who think everything is perfect.  This feeling is amplified when she meets the infamous "Count" Alexi on a trip to New York City to help her brother out of his latest love tangle.  There's something about Alexi that intrigues and entices Anna to try new things.  The question is, can Anna hang on to who she is as she is tempted by the unknown and unpredictable Alexi?  That’s a secret I cannot tell.

VERDICT this book is a little like a train wreck you can't look away from.  Once I started the book, I had trouble putting it down and breezed right through it.  I appreciate that the author offers a very frank look into the lives of these teenage characters and does not shy away from the idea that there are teens who are having sex, doing drugs, and coping with mental health issues.  The primary characters are all of a fairly elite status which can make their access to drugs and assistance with mental health seem somewhat too easy or unrealistic, but these are issues many young people will face on some scale and this book can be a good conversation starter.  It's a little shallow on the surface, but worth a deeper look if you're still intrigued at this point.
