Review:
There are several improbable happenings in this second novel, but nothing is impossible in this world created by Leigh Bardugo.  It seems as though Alina and Mal intend to flee Ravka after the fatal incident at the Fold, but after they are captured by the ruthless privateer Sturmhond and taken aboard his whaler the choice is taken from their hands.  The open and close of this book are action packed, but there is a fair amount of wallowing in the middle.  Alina's character continues to develop and as she gains more power, there is a desperate struggle between who she was, who she thought she would be, and who she is becoming.  She's got some toxic men in her life between the Darkling and Mal, but the introduction of a third potential suitor makes things exciting.  Alina makes some big decisions over the course of the novel and starts playing a more active role in both her own fate and that of Ravka.  By the end of this book, even though she has been weakened once again, we know she is not going to go quietly.

VERDICT Siege and Storm is fairy typical second novel drags a little at times but leaves us on a cliff hanger.  Alina continues to grow as a character and I liked seeing her start to try and take charge of her own fate.  Ready to jump right into the third (and final!) book in the series.
