Book Quote:
"Needless to say, I believe that I can accomplish anything I want in life, 'cause I'm too fly not to succeed.  I don't look like Ciara for nothin'...So, just look at me and see what it means to have self-esteem" - Chapter 1, p 22

Booktalk:

Library Cat Rating:  ðŸ˜» 😻
I am new to the Street/Urban Lit genre, but this was an awesome introduction.  Ni-Ni Simone creates characters that are realistic and relatable no matter what your background or life experiences. I love the use of music lyrics at the beginning of every chapter to help set the tone and provide additional emotional depth as the book takes a look at tough topics such as domestic violence.  This could be a valuable resource to help teens recognize if they are in an abusive relationship and offers resources to help. It is important for high school and public libraries to have street lit on their shelves as it may be relevant to a number of their patrons, especially in urban environments.
