Miracle's Boys

Miracle's Boys
By:  Jacqueline Woodson

Book Quote:
"I called him Newcharlie because Rahway hadn't sent the guy I was just talking about home.  This guy standing at the mirror moving his hair around was someone-something-different. Not the guy who used to laugh and tell jokes and put his arm around my shoulder.  This guy never did any of those things. Ever." -Chapter 1, p5

VERDICT is that this is a great book that explores the importance of family in the aftermath of tragedy.  Lafayette, Charlie, and Ty'ree are left struggling to fill a void after their mother's death.  Lafayette is the youngest and our narrator through this difficult time in which the brothers must come together to support each other and survive.

Annotation:
Lafayette use to be close to his older brother Charlie, but that was before Charlie went to Rahway prison and their Mama died.  Now Charlie is back and blames Lafayette for the death of their mother.
